How To Use Keto Urine Strips

  1. Take one test strip.
  2. Hold the non-colored end of the strip.
  3. Place the colored end of the strip into urine and remove after 5 seconds.
  4. Wait 15 seconds for the strip to change color.
  5. Compare the resulting color with the color chart to interpret results.

Interpreting Results

The color chart with our test strip includes approximate readings, which mean:

  • Mild ketosis - 0.5 - 1.0 mmol/L
  • Optimal ketosis - 1.0 - 3.0 mmol/L
  • Strong ketosis - 3.0 - 8.0 mmol/L

How do Ketone Test Strips work?

Keto strips have a small pad containing a chemical (sodium nitroprusside) that changes color when ketones are present in urine.

When is the best time to test for ketones in urine?

Test for ketones in the morning or 2-3 hours after your last meal. Testing immediately after a meal can give inaccurate readings.

If you want to track your ketones levels daily, stick with a specific time. Daily ketone testing can help you determine how many carbs you need to stay in ketosis.

How do I dip Ketone Strips into urine?

You can collect urine in a disposable cup or directly pee on the colored end of the strip for a couple of seconds.

I keep getting negative results. Does that mean I’m not in ketosis?

No, after being on the keto diet for a while, some people may find they have little to no ketones in the urine. That’s because they’re body has become more efficient at using ketones and less end up in urine.
